Antonio Gimbernat
Introduction
Antonio Gimbernat is a Fine and Digital Artist whose creative journey spans more than three decades. Beginning his career in the early 1990s, Antonio honed his skills in traditional fine art, developing a distinctive style that blends classical sensibilities with bold, modern expression. His work has always carried a deep sense of narrative and emotional resonance, inviting viewers into vivid worlds of color, texture, and form.
In 2012, Antonio expanded his creative repertoire into the realm of digital arts, producing an extensive body of work through 2016 that explored the possibilities of technology as a medium for artistic expression. His digital creations, like his fine art pieces, are grounded in his mastery of composition and design, yet they carry the added dimension of contemporary innovation.
Today, Antonio seeks the expertise of an experienced art appraiser and auction agent to evaluate and represent his collection for sale. The body of work spans both fine and digital mediums, representing a unique opportunity for collectors and institutions alike. While the decision to release these works to the market is driven by the realities of todays cost of living, it also reflects a desire to share these creations with those who will value, preserve, and enjoy them for years to come.
Antonios art is the product of decades of dedication, experimentation, and passion. The sale of his works is not only a practical necessity it is also an invitation for others to become stewards of a rich and diverse creative legacy.
About the Artist
Antonio Gimbernat:
A Journey of
Visual Discovery
and
Resilience
Born in the late 1960s, Antonio Gimbernat's artistic sensibilities were cultivated in the vibrant landscape of Southern California during the 1970s and 80s. His young mind absorbed a diverse range of visual stimuli, from the whimsical and colorful advertising of candy packaging, like the iconic "Wacky Packs," to the dynamic and captivating artwork adorning pinball machines. These early influences sparked a lifelong fascination with the power of visual communication.
Antonio's formative years also included a passion for ocean sports. Immersed in the world of body surfing, surfing, and lifeguarding, he developed a deep connection to the ocean's raw beauty and its ever-changing moods. This connection to the natural world would later find its way into his artistic expression.
During high school, Antonio's innate spatial reasoning abilities were honed in drafting classes. He was introduced to the principles of representing three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional plane through front, right-side, top, and isometric views. This early training in translating form and perspective laid the foundation for his future explorations in art.
Following his graduation in 1986, driven by a sense of duty and the belief that his ocean sports and lifeguard skills would be valuable, Antonio enlisted in the U.S. Navy. However, his experience took an unexpected turn. The challenges he faced during his time in the service, including bullying, hazing, and harassment, created a difficult environment. Sadly, this led to depression and unhealthy coping mechanisms, ultimately resulting in his early discharge after a year of service. This difficult period would have a profound impact on Antonio, shaping his perspective and influencing his artistic journey.
From Personal Challenges to Artistic Expression
In 1988, Antonio embraced the opportunity to broaden his horizons through a semester abroad in London, England. During his fall break, he embarked on a transformative trip to Paris, where he stood in awe before the masterpieces housed in the Louvre, including the iconic Mona Lisa. He continued his journey to Rome, where he experienced the grandeur of the Sistine Chapel and other renowned works of art. These encounters with artistic giants ignited a deeper passion within him, inspiring him to explore his own creative potential.
Upon his return, from 1990 to 1991, Antonio immersed himself in the world of theater as a stage carpenter at Colorado University at Boulder, assisting with the creation of opera sets.
This experience provided him with valuable knowledge of fabricating stage flats—large canvas walls used for scenery. More importantly, it opened his eyes to the transformative power of art, as he witnessed how real-life stories could be translated into compelling songs, operas, and illustrations.
In 1991, Antonio returned to his hometown of Newport Beach, California, and produced his first oil on canvas, entitled "My Playground." This marked the beginning of a period of intense artistic exploration. Over the next 13 years, he dedicated himself to creating a diverse body of work, encompassing both pencil drawings and oil paintings.
Driven by the need for a fresh start and a change of scenery, Antonio moved to Maui, Hawaii, in 1998. After facing some personal challenges, Antonio achieved sobriety in 2000 and found work as a handyman.
In 2006, he obtained a Commercial Driver's License but was unfortunately laid off during the economic recession of 2008.
Undeterred, Antonio decided to pursue his dream of sharing his story with the world. He contacted the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, who advised him to write a screenplay.
He poured his heart and soul into writing "Stoney the Sailor." After facing difficulties in getting his screenplay optioned, Antonio enrolled in online digital animation courses from 2012 to 2016, marking his entry into the world of digital arts.
Most recently, Antonio has been exploring opportunities to market his fine art prints to motel chains.
